Top Ten Books I WILL Be Reading This Spring (14)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish
This one was kind of easy for me since I actually have A LIST of about 50 books in my immediate TBR pile that I'll probably be sticking to. Mostly because I'm abroad and I only have a certain number of books/e-books available to me. So here are the top 10 books I anticipate making my way through from the start of Spring (March 21st) through the end of April. And y'know what? To make this thing interesting, at the end of April, I'll post a list of books I've read in the time frame previously mentioned and see how good I am at STICKING TO THE PLAN. I can't promise I'll be 10/10. I get distracted by shiny, new things often. But I think this'll be an interesting experiment, if nothing else.

1. Etiquette & Espionage by Gail Carriger
I love me some Steampunk. And Gail Carriger. I can only imagine what THIS author's foray into YA is going to look like and I'm very excited to FINALLY take this one off my shelf and READ IT.

2. Scarlet by Marissa Meyer
Everyone has been talking about this one and I've just been lazy about getting to it. Time to fix that, don't you think?

3. Geek Girl by Holly Smale
I got this book at the launch party the other week. Not only do I find bully books to be PROFOUNDLY IMPORTANT, but I also think Holly Smale is adorable.

4. Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson
I love Peter Pan. Sososososo much. I finally got this book from my library (in e-book form - I have the hard copy at home, but well, that's at home, not here) and I won't let my loan expire without reading it!

5. Graceling by Kristin Cashore
Another library loan I WILL NOT LET EXPIRE (again) without reading. I love fantasy and everyone I know who loves fantasy loves this one, so it's happening. Before the end of April.

6. The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
Let's talk about AUTHORS I LOVE. Maggie Stiefvater? Definitely one of them. I hate that I haven't read this one yet, so Imma fix that.

7. Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein
Period pieces, how I love thee, let me count the ways. Okay, I won't because we'll be here all day. I hear this one's hard to get into, but I think I can handle the challenge.

8. Mind Games by Kiersten White
I won this one through ARCycling and I try to get through my ARCycling books in a timely fashion because the whole system is so entirely wonderful and I want to keep all of the wheels turning properly.

9. Grim by Anna Waggener
But I'm a hypocrite because this is an ARCycling book I've hard for a while and just haven't gotten to. Another thing I must fix before the end of April.

10. Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta
This is another book people say is hard to get into. But it comes HIGHLY recommended, so I'm going to give it all of my attention and every best effort I have.

I kinda made a challenge for myself out of this Top Ten Tuesday, didn't I? Make sure to stop by at the end of April to see how I did. And be sure to let me know what your list looks like in the comments below!

  1. I have to stop being so surprised that not everyone has read Jellicoe Road. It is really an amazing novel and I hope you enjoy it. Scarlet is also very good. You have some really great books to read in the next couple months. Enjoy.

    1. I totally didn't even know about Jellicoe Road until a friend of mine told me about it last fall. So I snatched it up because she and I often agree bookishly. I'm excited to FINALLY get to it!

Thanks for stopping by Sara! ^_^

  2. Espionage and Etiquette and Scarlet are ones I'd like to read as well, but it won't be until the summer that I attempt to read them. Great TBR list and happy reading!

  5. YES!!! Read Code Name Verity! It is heavy, but so powerful. I love your list, especially because I need to read a bunch of them! I got Jellicoe Road and Graceling this week-- hopefully they make in off the book shelf sooner than later!

    1. I hope they make it off the bookshelf too! I'm trying to prepare myself to read Code Name Verity. Everyone says it's heavy and I'm like O.O It's kind of like when athletes carbo-load before a race. I need to... uhm... I don't know. How does one get ready for a heavy book? I should probably figure that out...

  6. Scarlet is amaaaaazing! The MC, Scarlet, is one of my favourite YA heroines right now. I love her. Graceling was also really good. I'm DYING to read Tiger Lily! GIMME!

  7. I LOVED The Scorpio Races. It's a great read, maybe a little hard to get into, but at 50 pages you won't be able to put it down.

  8. Oh my gosh, Scarlet is amazing! It's just as wonderful as Cinder, if not better. I think it's such an interesting way of writing a series - each book featuring a different fairytale. Love it!

I need to read Graceling, too. I just picked up a copy, so now I have NO EXCUSES!

    Happy Spring Reading :)

  11. You MUST read Scarlet, especially if you enjoyed Cinder. It's a great addition to the series, plus you get to meet my new favorites Wolf (who is AWESOME) and Thorne (who is HILARIOUS)!

Tiger Lily was SO GOOD. I didn't expect to get all emotional when I read it earlier this year, but I did. It's so tragic, but it's so well-written and just... well, if fairytale characters could have authentic first love experiences, this would be a good example.

Graceling is a book I've been meaning to read again, as I read it way before I started blogging. It's a solid fantasy book though, and I love Katsa and Po!

Um, yes please read The Scorpio Races! Maggie's writing is stellar in that one, and I think I can safely say that it is my favorite Stiefvater work to date. So beautiful and unique!

Code Name Verity is a bit difficult to get into, I will say, but it's an incredible story. I didn't expect how the story would turn out at all!

Jellicoe Road is equally hard to get into it, but I loved it. Melina's writing is INCREDIBLE.

  12. Awesome list! Scarlet is so, so good. Also, Graceling is pretty much amazing, though I still need to get to the companion books; I hope you enjoy it! OHMYGOODNESS. Code Name Verity is so freaking incredible. I was so excited when it won the Printz because it definitely deserves it! I wasn't a huge fan of Jellicoe Road...at all, but I think I'm in the extreme minority on that, so hopefully you enjoy it more than I did. ;)

I completely second your excitement on Etiquette & Espionage, Geek Girl, and Scorpio Races. Yay! Happy reading, I hope you get a chance to enjoy all of these very soon - good luck with your challenge! ~New follower.

    1. I feel like sometimes reviews make me hesitant to read stuff, but if I get it in my head to read something, I'LL DO IT ANYWAY, y'know? It's a good and bad thing, but I'd also hate for reviews to dictate my life.

  21. Ya know, I rented Graceling, read the first couple of chapters, and returned it. It just didn't work for me. Before I returned it, I did read the end to make sure I wasn't making a huge mistake. I don't think I did. So I'm very interested to hear what you have to say about it when you read.

I hope you like Scarlet - I looooved. Which reminds me, I need to call my book store and make sure it's still on hold for tomorrow during their 50% sale! hehehehe
