Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish |
I have a lot of feelings regarding film adaptations. There are a lot out there that I hate, a couple I like and a whole bunch I'm just kind WHATEVS about. So instead of trimming a list of hates or wracking my brain for a bunch of likes, I'm just going to make a list of books I wish they (AKA Hollywood) would turn into movies (or TV shows). Of course, it goes without saying that these adaptations would be flawless pieces of brilliance. So keep that in mind as you peruse my list.
PS: Sorry there are no graphics of any kind this week. My brain is just too tired.
1. ALL OF THE TAMORA PIERCE
Set in Tortall, of course. Gillian and I have discussed this and we've decided Tortall as a whole would make a fantastic set of mini-series/kickbutt TV series on the BBC. I mean, Merlin? Success. Robin Hood? Yeah, he got some limelight. WHY. NOT. TORTALL?
2. If I Stay by Gayle Forman
OKAY. I know they're doing this already, but I still want it and I want it to be GOOD. So it makes the list. (My Review)
3. Graceling by Kristin Cashore
What's that? Another kickbutt fantasy book I'd like to be seen made into a movie? WE ALL SAW LORD OF THE RINGS. WE KNOW YOU CAN HANDLE THE CHALLENGE, HOLLYWOOD. (My Review)
4. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
Seriously. Dystopian superheroes. This has MOVIE written all over it. Someone get on that, please. (My Review)
5. For Darkness Shows the Stars by Diana Peterfreund
TELL ME this wouldn't be amazing. I mean, sci-fi, which is amazing on the big screen, and then throw in some Jane Austen? I don't even want to talk to you right now if you don't want to see Kai and Elliot smolder on screen. (My Review)
6. My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick
My brain thinks this would make an EXCELLENT indie drama. There'll be hipster music and a pair of semi-famous actors. It'll be kind of like Remember Me - that movie with Rob Pattinson that made me cry like a small child. (My Review)
7. Sloppy Firsts by Megan McCafferty
If The Clique can be made into a movie, it's almost an INJUSTICE for Jessica Darling not to get some screen time - at least as a Carrie Diaries-esque show on the CW. (My Review)
8. The Mediator Series by Meg Cabot
SO MUCH CABOT HAS BEEN ADAPTED. WHY NOT JESSE THE HOT GHOST? Seriously. This would be an amazing TV show. I would watch it always.
9. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
I could draw the comparison to Game of Thrones or I could just say: THERE IS SO MUCH MATERIAL HERE. SO PERFECT FOR TV. TV, WHY ARE YOU PASSING UP THIS OPPORTUNITY? (My Review)
10. Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
This would be another great indie film. I don't even have caps locks for how good this indie film would be. So can it please just be made already so I can watch it?

There are a ton of other books I'd LOVE to see in movie/TV form, but these are the ones I think would probably work if given a chance. But what do you think? Am I completely crazy? Would these all suck? Let me know in the comments below!
LOVE your twist on the TTT. As I'm reading I'm just nodding and going 'yes...yes...YES...Totally!...make that a movie!'
ReplyDeletehaha, Graceling would be so bitchin' as would Shatter Me...AND THRONE OF GLASS!!!! HELLO CHAOL!!!
I've heard a Thirteen Reasons Why movie is in the works, and Selena Gomez was in talks to play Hannah. But that was over a year ago, so that may not be true anymore. That's definitely a movie I want them to make!
ReplyDeleteI've always wondered myself why Graceling hasn't been adapted. I've even discussed this with other friends and bloggers - and I considered mentioning that on my list today! Great minds!
ReplyDeleteI love how you switched it up!
ReplyDeleteI would love to see Graceling as a movie!! That would be amazing.
I'm SO SCARED for If I Stay! I know Chloe Moretz is going to play Mia and I love her but I don't know if I love her for Mia *bites nails*
YES. Any Tamora Pierce book series would make a perfect TV mini-series. Someone needs to explain why this hasn't happened yet, because it should! There's just so much fodder for awesome in her books.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I agree about Graceling and Throne of Glass. Both have the potential to really shine as fantasy movies! Can you imagine how epic it would be to see all of the events in these books playing out on a big movie screen? GRAB THE POPCORN AND LET'S GO.
For Darkness Shows the Stars & My Life Next Door would TOTALLY make me swoon. Just saying.
Tortall as a mini-series is the greatest idea ever. Also I would love a Throne of Glass movie...mainly so I could see Chaol's hotness on the big screen.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great list. SO excited to see that If I Stay is going to be a movie! :)
ReplyDeleteMy TTT: http://www.bookythoughtsandme.com/top-ten-best-and-worst-book-to-movie-adaptation-experiences/
The problem with this list is, while I can see them being epic, I can also see Hollywood totally screw them up a la Twilight or THE HOST (I am still sore about that one) or HARRY FREAKING POTTER. The contemporaries would be harder to massacre, but I wouldn't trust anyone but Peter Jackson or Joss Whedon or someone at that level of awesome to do the sci-fi/fantasy ones. I couldn't handle it if they messed up Throne of Glass, I COULD NOT HANDLE. oh god, and now I'm imagining casting, and I would boycott if they didn't get Chaol right. *faints*
ReplyDeleteHere's the info regarding GRACELING being made into a movie (and there's a facebook page, too!)

:D
Oh my goodness! I adore this list. I'm almost frightened to have some of my favorite books made into movies. I don't want them to be ruined! I remember way back when (6th-8th grade) I adored the Twilight books - went to midnight releases everything. But then the movies were released and they were just so disappointing. I used to have yearly rereads of the series, and now I can't do so without being disappointed.
ReplyDeleteHowever, Book to Movie adaptions have been getting better over the years!
If I Stay, Sloppy Firsts, and Thirteen Reasons Why would all be INCREDIBLE. (Please late me have Marcus and Adam on the big screen? Or even the small screen)
My Top Ten
Great change up!!
ReplyDeleteI think I heard somewhere about Thirteen Reasons Why becoming a movie, but I could be sooo wrong. I'm up for any of Meg Cabot books becoming movies. I love her soooo much. She's too funny.
I need some Tamora Pierce books in my life! And yes, I'd totally watch all of these movies.
ReplyDeleteI'm so with you on For Darkness Shows the Stars as a movie adaptation! That would be AMAZING.
ReplyDelete1. OMG. Tamora Pierce should be like badass tv shows.
ReplyDelete2. I'm just not convinced this can be a good movie. There's SO MUCH in her head.
3. GAHHHHHHH.
4. This might be something that would be better in movie form than book.
5. Hmmm, maybe. I don't know.
6. HAVEN'T READ IT.
7. O_O PLEASE. I want a tv show. PLEASE.
8. AHHHHHH ANOTHER TV SHOW.
9. OMGOMGOMG
Dude, I need you to get a job at the CW and become their creative director. GET. ON. THAT. SHIT.
