In order to keep my other Bout of Books 6.0 post from getting so long I want to cry scrolling through it, I've decided to set up a different post for my daily progress. In the event that you want to refer to my original post about my goals for Bout of Books 6.0, you can follow THIS LINK and read all about my crazy life decision to join this readathon. The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 7th and runs through Sunday, January 13th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 6.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. - From the Bout of Books 6.0 team
All caught up? Great. Read on, lovelies.

Bout of Books 6.0 Daily Challenge: Scientific Discovery hosted by The Book Barbies
You have a made a scientific discovery (who knew you were so good at science?!) on how to bring fictional characters to life. The problem? The method still isn't *perfect,* so you can only bring two people to life, and they must return to the land of fiction in 30 days. Who will you choose as your bestie and your love interest for the one splendid month? (Feel free to add pictures, if you like, but they are not required.)
I'm pretty sure this is the hardest question anyone has ever asked me. I even asked my friend Leah for help (since we recently discovered we share a brain about a lot of our book/TV loves). She said, and I quote: "Is this whole thing something you were challenged/assigned to do, or something you're putting yourself through? Because if it's the latter, I'm signing you up for therapy. You're clearly a danger to yourself."
Anyway. I spent a while thinking about it (i.e. ALL DAY) and I came up with the following:
Best Friend: I have to agree with Racquel on this one. I would want Chloe to be my best friend for a month. We would prance and dance and adventure all over town. It would be glorious. But since I'm not a prance and dance and adventure 24/7 kind of gal, I think a month is all I would be able to take before I needed a really long break. Not to mention, she totally has her head on straight and I think she'd be able to handle all of my ridiculousness. So one month with Chloe to make me do things I would never do, even though I might complain, and then back to my lazy ways, please!
My Boyfriend: This one was much harder than the best friend question. But I was pretty sure for minute one that I would ultimately decide on a Dessen boy - it was only a question of WHICH ONE. My usual go to is Owen, because UGH. OWEN. Only, I don't think I'd be able to stand the heartache of losing him after a month. So then I thought about it and decided quirky, messy, lovely Dexter would be the right pick. I'm pretty OCD and uptight about a lot of things and I think a month with Dexter would help me loosen me up and adjust my life perspective. Of course, I'd still be sad to see him go at the end of the month, but I don't think I could live with messy forever, no matter how charming.

Bout of Books 6.0 Daily Challenge: The Page 48 Challenge hosted by Booking in Heels
Turn to page 48 of your current book, or 48% if you're using an e-reader. Take the first complete sentence on that page and copy it. Now you're going to continue the story! Ignoring the real plot or anything else you know about that book, add four new sentences of your very own. You can morph the plot completely, kill everybody off or go off on a huge tangent - anything goes!
I'm reading Dash & Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn & David Levithan right now. Here's how page 48 kicks off:
What do you want for Christmas?
My take:
What do you want for Christmas? She stared at the question he'd written on the tiny scrap of paper, not quite sure how to phrase her response. She looked up and tried to meet his gaze, but either he was actually doing his homework or he was avoiding her. Since this was homeroom, she figured it was the latter. After a moment's hesitation she wrote the word You under his messy scrawl, folded the paper and passed it back to him before she could change her mind, Mariah Carey songs be damned.

Bout of Books 6.0 Daily Challenge: Rewrite the Synopsis hosted by A Day Dreamer's Thoughts
Your challenge, if you choose to accept it, is to take any of the books that you have read for this read-a-thon (or plan to read over the last three days), and re-write the synopsis just from the books cover. The aim is to make it sounding completely different from the original synopsis!
I read Cinder on Day 2, so here's my made up summary:

I read Cinder on Day 2, so here's my made up summary:
On her 17th birthday, Aimee gets into a terrible car accident. As a result, the doctors must put metal parts into her leg to make her whole again. The only problem? Prom is coming up and the cutest boy in the senior class asked her to be his date. Her injury makes it almost impossible for her to walk, let alone dance. Will Aimee be able to overcome the setbacks in time to go to prom with the boy of her dreams or will she spend the night sitting on her bed, watching horror flicks with her best friend, Jason, like she does almost every other Friday night of her life?

But enough about me. How are YOU doing? Feeling the pressure? Staying up too late? Having a good time? Feel free to share in the comments below!
You had a great first to days and you response to the challenge was great. I loved it.
ReplyDeleteGood luck and Happy reading.
Thanks!!! The second challenge was so much fun for me!!
DeleteOkay, that is a seriously great Dash and Lily rewrite you pulled off there. I read it just before Christmas and really enjoyed it! I liked The Statistical Probability (etc etc really long title) as well; who HASN'T dreamed of meeting their soulmate in a strange location, especially one as hot as Oliver?!
ReplyDeleteHappy reading for another day!
Ellie @ Musings of a Bookshop Girl
I will take an Oliver EVERY day of the week.
DeleteAnd thanks!! When I opened to page 48 and saw that line I was like "ooooooh this is gonna be CUTE!" I hadn't even made it to that part yet so I just had fun with it!
Happy reading to you too :)
Aww, loved the page48 challenge response! :-) Hope you're having fun in the read-a-thon!
ReplyDeleteThanks!! If the challenges keep being this fun, I can't imagine I'd stop enjoying any of this!
DeleteI love your page 48 rewrite! That's so sweet :)
ReplyDeleteMy Page 48 challenge is here if you'd like a look :)
Thanks so much, Claire! :)
DeleteAwwww your rewrite is adorable! I mean, I love Dash and Lily anyway, but that just made it cuter :) Nice job!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Anne!!! It really is a cute book, but I guess I decided it needed to be cuter ;)
DeleteYou are doing good! i have fun unfortunately a lot of unexpected things happened so if i'm achieveing my goal in the socializiong part the reading part i need to do better ^^ and now seeing the days disapearing too quickly the pressuree is becoming a bit harder ( i know i know it's not an obligation, i set my my glaol but i hate to fail^^;;)
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel about the goals, Miki. I wanted to reach ALL of mine. But I guess 3/4 isn't so terrible.
DeleteThanks for commenting! :)
I love your synopsis of Cinder :)
ReplyDeleteHappy reading!
I'm glad you liked it!!
DeleteThanks for commenting, Aleksandra! :)
Love your synopsis. And your books for the readathon. I loved Dash and Lily's. The Statistical.. and Cinder are on my TBR.
ReplyDeleteStatistical Probability and Cinder are both great! I hope you get to them soon. I also loved Dash & Lily. So cute.
DeleteI'm glad you loved the synopsis! I really enjoyed writing it.
Thanks for commenting!! :)
Your synopsis of Cinder is fabulous! That's on my TBR list. I better get to it quick otherwise I'll miss the release of Scarlet.
ReplyDeleteMy Day 4 update
Happy Reading!
Less than a month until Scarlet! Cinder's definitely worth it.
DeleteThanks for commenting and happy reading! :)
I love your synopsis of Cinder! I might have to add the real Cinder to my TBR list.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you liked my made-up synopsis. The real one's pretty great so DEFINITELY add Cinder to your TBR list. So very worth it!! The sequel comes out soon, so you won't even have to wait that long for the sequel (although it's a 4-parter, so maybe not so glorious).
DeleteThanks for commenting, Jessica! :)
Dash and Lily's Book of Dares is such a fun book! I enjoyed Cinder too. But David Levithan is one of my top favorite authors. <3
ReplyDeleteANYWAY keep up the good read!
Dash and Lily really is SO fun. I really loved their little adventure. I wish I could do stumble upon something like that!
DeleteThanks for commenting! I hope your reading's been going well, too. :)
You have read some great books this week! I hope that you enjoyed them because they are AWESOME! (Though I haven't read Wither yet, but it is waiting for me on my bookshelf LOL)
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great last day of the readathon!
I did enjoy!!! I wish I'd had more time to read the rest on the list :/
DeleteWither AND Fever are phenomenal. Sever comes out SO SOON so you'll be able to read all three in a row - aka the ideal.
Thanks for commenting, Jennifer. :)
Ella, I read The Statistical Probability and Dash & Lily at the end of 2012 and loved them. I will have to read your thoughts on them :) And I may have to check out the other books you read.
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll have a good last day for Bout of Books!
I really did enjoy the last day, and the whole event! I also really enjoyed Statistical Probability and Dash & Lily. I'm so glad you liked them too.
DeleteThanks for commenting and happy reading, Kathrin! :)
Great progress! I am feelin the heat a little bit. I think I overshot my goal just a bit. But hey wheres the fun in a challenge if you don't actually challenge yourself. This is my first read-a-thon and it has been loads of fun.
ReplyDeleteI ALSO overshot my goal, but it's not the end of the world (I hope!). It was fun, either way. I'm glad you had fun during your first readathon-it's my first also and I know I had tons of fun!
DeleteThanks for commenting and happy reading, Kristen!
You're doing so great! I hope you have a productive last readathon day!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sarah!! It could have been more productive, but I think I accomplished a lot and so I am happy :)
