Top Ten Books Everyone's Read But Me That I'm Dying to Read (19)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish
It's Top Ten REWIND week! So I went on The Broke and the Bookish blog, looked at the list of previous topics and decided to COMBINE two topics. So I'm taking Top Ten Books Everyone's Read But Me and Top Ten Books That I'm Dying to Read and rolling it all into one. Because why would I be dying to read all these books that my blogger friends have read and raved about?

1. Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
I've actually already purchased this book. It's sitting on my bed back in NYC, waiting for me to reenter the country and pounce on top of it. Which I will, partially because everyone loves it and because my friend Leah once told me that whenever she shows the author pictures to our friends back at school they ask if I've aged, taken on a pseudonym and written a book. Because apparently I'll look like Rainbow Rowell in a couple of years? I don't know.

2. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
I actually have plans to read this one with Rachel and Gillian as soon as I can download the ebook from my library website. Which could take a while. But a lot of people I know have been raving about this book recently (notably Judith), so I should get on that.

3. The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson
I LOVE fantasy and everyone tells me this one's REALLY GOOD. And Margot's always raving about it on Tea Time. So basically I have a million incentives to read this one, so I just need to DO IT, y'know?

4. Graceling by Kristin Cashore
This is another book I'm just about to start. Again, I love fantasy so I'm excited for this one - partially because everyone loves it, but also because all three books are already out so I won't have to wait.

5. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
I only hear good, squeal-y things about this book. And I love squeal-y books. But I'm waiting until the cover redesign to buy all of the books in the series.

6. Sloppy Firsts by Megan McCafferty
I think everyone read this series back when I was devouring Tamora Pierce books/only had eyes for fantasy books. So I guess I need to backtrack and work my way through this series.

7. Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta
Confession time? I'd never even heard of Melina Marchetta until a couple of months ago when my friend Leah (yes, the same Leah from #1 on this list) told me she was her favorite (this is when I confessed my love of Tamora Pierce to her). I bought Jellicoe Road soon after but haven't gotten around to it yet. Soon, Leah. Soon.

8. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
My friend Lexi has been pushing me to read this one since LONG before I was a blogger. And then I became a blogger and you guys were all READREADREAD. I'm getting there, guys, I promise. Especially since book 2 is coming out super soon. And Sarah J. Maas is going to BEA. All exciting.

9. Across the Universe by Beth Revis
This is another complete trilogy. And it's about outer space? I like outer space. I didn't always - I wasn't that little kid who wanted to be an astronaut or anything. But the recent development of my obsession with Doctor Who has changed a couple of things in my life, to be sure.

10. Unearthly by Cynthia Hand
Yet another finished series. Everyone FREAKED OUT when Boundless came out, so angels or not, I REALLY want to read it.

Considering one of the qualifiers of this list is "books everyone's read," tell me, WHICH SHOULD I READ FIRST? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. I really want to read E&P too. I'll have to look up the author and see if she's your doppleganger lol. VA is pretty great and Anna is fantastic! You'll probably like it because you were just in france! And Sloppy first is one of my favorite series. The main character has so much snark and I laugh out loud even after rereading it for the 100th time. Great list! My TTT

Actually read Anna and the French Kiss and I recommend it, it's great :D
Currently reading Shades of Earth, the last book in the Across the Universe trilogy, and I can really recommend it, I wouldn't have read the entire trilogy if I didn't like it so...yeah, get on that! :D

Awesome list by the way, mine would never be just a top ten, I'd be able to come up with a million (or so) books that fit in this category :P

  11. If it makes you feel any better, I haven't read ANY of these books either. The ones I'm most interested in are Eleanor and Park and Jellicoe Road. The other ones are not ones that really stand out to me, but that I really want to read just to be able to have my own opinion when everyone else talks about them! Great list :)

  23. I have THOUGHTS and FEELS about every single book on this list, so pardon me for leaving an extra long comment this week. Just wanted to warn you before I got down to it!

    1. Eleanor & Park - I really, really liked this one. It was so wonderfully written, and my favorite part is the romance between the two title characters. Other people had issues with parts of the book, but as for me, I LOVED it.

    2. Vampire Academy - Cass and Judith (and Betty and a few more people) have been pushing me to read this series. I wasn't going to initially since I couldn't find it yet at my usual library branch. BUT it was meant to be because I saw a used copy on sale for $1 and thought - gee, guess I have to read it now. Not sure when I'll do it, but it WILL happen.

    3. The Girl of Fire and Thorns - I have this one out from the library and will be reading it for my IT TAKES TWO feature with Cassie. I did read the first chapter and it already hooked me. I need to devote one Saturday to simply reading this one through. Plus, I agree - Margot's continued promotion of this series makes me curious.

    4. Graceling - I want to read this series again. It's one of my favorites, this first book especially, but I've never actually read Bitterblue and finished it. I hope you do get a chance to read it and meet the fantastic characters that are Katsa and Po.

    5. Anna and the French Kiss - SO SUPER CUTE. This was a book that got my non-reader friend reading, so it's definitely awesome! I love this one a lot, but I liked Lola a teensy bit more.

    6. Sloppy Firsts - I've not yet read this series, but I've meant to for years. Again, fate must have decided it's time because I found the first book for, you guessed it, $1. I seriously cannot wait to get started on this series and find out what all the fuss is about.

    7. Jellicoe Road - This was my first Marchetta book and it's oh so beautiful. It takes a while to get into the rhythm of it, but I loved it. I soaked it up like a sponge, and wanted to hug it when I was done.

    8. Throne of Glass is one of my favorite debuts of last year. It's by no means perfect, especially if you read a lot of fantasy (it's fantasy light, if I'm being honest). But I love Celaena. I love the world. I love the boys (Chaol is my favorite). And Sarah J. Maas is one of my favorite people EVER.

    9. Across the Universe series - I have the first two and I may be reading them + the third one this weekend. I'm very curious, and have been since I first heard of it. I've also gotten the opportunity to see Beth and hear her talk about the series, and it sounds FASCINATING.

    10. Unearthly is super good! I read the first one back in February, and loved it. And I just finished the second one last night. Will be ending the series this week and I'm so nervous about finding out what happens in the last one (and specifically, which boy she ends up with).

Okay, whew. I think I'm done now.

  24. I am following Alexa's lead and leaving you a SUPER MEGA LONG COMMENT.

    1. Also totally intend to read Eleanor and Park, since everyone is obsessed with it.

    2. Vampire Academy. Soon, so soon, we will read this book. I still can't help but wince every time I look at the cover, since I hate it, but we'll see what's inside.

    3. It's actually GIRL of Fire and Thorns, and the sequel is CROWN of Embers. The sequel is one of my all-time favorite fantasy reads EVER, with my fave love interests EVER, so GET ON THAT, GIRL. SERIOUSLY.

    4. I was a late comer to Graceling as well, but I'm so glad I read it. It's really amazing. A true fantasy classic.

    5. Anna and the French Kiss: As Alexa said, this is CUTER THAN THE CUTEST CUTE THING YOU'VE EVER SEEN. As someone who is currently gallivanting around Europe, I think you'd love hanging out with Anna in Paris. It's such a fun book.

    6. I was that rare person reading BOTH Tamora Pierce and Sloppy Firsts. GO INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO MARCUS FLUTIE, WOMAN, STAT.

    7. I haven't read a single word of Melina Marchetta, and like you hadn't even heard of her until I became a book blogger! I guess I need to get on that also.

    8. THRONE OF GLASS. THROOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE OOOOOOOOOOF GLASS READ IT NOW STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING YOU FOOLISH GIRL CHAOL WESTFALL AWAITS YOU

    9. Haven't read Across the Universe yet either, but I've had it on my list for ages.

    10. Ditto above. I'm not super into angels, but I own the first book, and everyone I know completely loves it, so one day.

Sorry I kind of yelled at you, I just got EXCITED. ALSO MAY IS SO SOON AND THAT IS EXCITING ALSO

  29. I can't believe you haven't read Anna and the French Kiss! I'm trying to remember if I saw Molli trying to convince you to join her read-along on Twitter. It was my second time reading it and I loved it even more this time around! I've read Vampire Academy and Across the Universe, but other than that, all of these books are on my list too - I even own Unearthly and Sloppy Firsts.

I had a heck of a time narrowing it down to just ten when I did this topic a few weeks ago. It seems we all compulsively buy books and then just let them sit! lol From your list, I've read Venom and The Catastrophic History of You and Me (didn't love them), and The Diviners has been sitting on my shelf for awhile, but I won that one - I'm bad at reading books I win too!

  33. Sorry this is going to be a bit of a long comment ;)

Eleanor & Park...ohmygosh I went into this book with high expectations and it did not disappoint! It gets harder and harder for me to like contemporaries as I read more of them but this one stood out. Vampire Academy...so I JUST read all of these. I started in January and finished the 2nd week of February. The first two or so are OK but once you get to the end of book three you are not going to want to stop! I was late to the party but am so glad i came ;)The Girl of Fire and Thorns...I was not expecting to love this series the way I do. Book 1 is good but book 2 IS FABULOUS. Sloppy Firsts...these books were high school to me! I need to read this series again because it has been too long since I had my Jessica/Marcus fill. Across the Universe...I feel like this series is unique because there is not that much YA that is set in space and the series has a really good wrap-up in my opinion.

    1. SPACE. I LOVE OUTER SPACE. I also love fantasy and contemporary and ugh I don't even know. So many books I want to read. But it's good to know I should keep going with VA. Chances are I would just stop after one if I didn't like - especially since it's such a long series.

  36. Eleanor & Park is so unique and authentic and sweet and sad and colorful and just overall beautiful. If you read VA, I will start happy dancing for sure. It's my favorite YA romance and it involves PARIS. You'll love it. And you'll recognize everything ahhhh. And I enjoyed Unearthly a lot, though it's not a favorite of mine.
