Bout of Books 7.0: Goals

Bout of Books
The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 13th and runs through Sunday, May 19th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 7.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. - From the Bout of Books team
This is my second Bout of Books and I think I'm as excited as I was the first time around. Maybe more excited? Who know. I just want to read ALL OF THE BOOKS, busy or not. So once again I must extend a million thank yous to Amanda and Kelly, the lovely hosts of Bout of Books. Ladies, you are the loveliest.

This round of Bout of Books is particularly tricky for me because it takes place during Senior Week. Senior Week is a week full of events for about-to-graduate seniors at my university. While I graduated in December and have been very much enjoying my time NOT in school, I'm still going back for Senior Week to cuddle with all my friends. I've missed them VERY MUCH during my time not in school (said time NOT in school has taken place abroad, no where near said friends) so not only am I going back for Senior Week fun, I'm going back to cling to my college besties like a sloth. This takes priority over reading/blogging (although I will try to do both).

Given this limitation, I'm only going to commit to reading 2 hours a day. This means I'll be reading A LOT fewer books than my last Bout of Books Wrap Up post boasts. But yeah. I'm going to try my very, very best to read 2 hours a day - if not more.

My goals this time around are a little less lofty than my goals from my first Bout of Books, but I'm still VERY EXCITED.
  • Read at least 3 books from the list below.
  • Participate in at least 1 Twitter chat.
  • Network with bloggers and make awesome new friends.
  • Participate in at least 2 challenges.

So again, I REALLY don't know how many of these I'm actually going to finish but I am going to try very, very hard to get through AT LEAST 3 of them. A couple of them are short and I'm in the middle of two of them so it's not ENTIRELY unrealistic.

1. Defiance by C.J. Redwine
I started this a little while ago and never finished. I've actually even finished other books while working my way through it because I have it in ebook for and I still sometimes struggle through that (I MUCH prefer the hardcopy). But I'm HOPING to finish it this week!

2. The Boyfriend App by Katie Sise
This is the only book on this list that I didn't bring up to Boston with me this week so if I get to it, it won't be until this weekend, which might make it my Bout of Books grand finale. I kind of like that idea.

3. In the Hands of the Goddess by Tamora Pierce
This one's for #PierceFest. I'm half done but there's still another half to go!

4. Meant to Be by Lauren Morrill
Someone recently told me this one's ADORABLE and I'm ALL FOR adorable so get it to me.

5. Going Vintage by Lindsey Leavitt

6. Through the Ever Night by Veronica Rossi
I read Under the Never Sky about a month ago and now I'm super, SUPER excited to read this one.

7. Sloppy Firsts by Megan McCafferty
I've been talking about reading this one all year and I feel like it's a good, short, read-a-thon type of read so BRING IT ON.

8. Fire by Kristin Cashore
I LOVED GRACELING so I can only imagine how much I'll love Fire. Trying to contain my excitement here is impossible.

9. Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Claire [Audiobook]
I don't know if audiobooks count for Bout of Books but since this week is a week of bus rides - I CANNOT read on buses - I'll be listening to this on the rides. So I don't know if I'm gonna count it but I'm still going to list it here.

Are you guys joining in? Let me know in the comments below so we can chat about our insane life choices!

  1. I GET TO JOIN BOUT OF BOOKS THIS TIME! HOORAY! I know I'm busy that week (it is the week I visit you in Boston! yay!), but I don't care. I'll have reading time aplenty while I'm traveling ;)

    1. YES! PLENTY OF TIME TO READ WHILE TRAVELING!!! And I think we can excuse the hours not reading (aka the hours we're playing together in Boston) because WE'LL BE PLAYING TOGETHER IN BOSTON! ^_^

  2. I'm going to participate in Bout of Books in May, too, and I am so excited. It will be my first time participating in a readathon and I can't wait. I haven't set out my goals yet, but I am also kind of busy that week. I've got a conference in Rochester, NY to attend and then a big Teen Book festival on that Saturday. But I'm still participating, I'll keep my goals reasonable :)

    1. THIS WAS ME IN JANUARY!!! January was my first readathon/first bout of books!! I was so excited - especially since I had loads of reading time. But either way I would have been thrilled!! I'm so glad you're taking part AND that you're so excited!!

  3. I didn't know about this, thanks for telling us! I want to participate in this, yay! Can't wait! :)

    1. YAY I'm so glad you're going to participate Alyssa!!! ^_^

  4. Cannot wait for this week of reading! And of course communicating with other bloggers... Already counting the days.

  5. You can read 2 hours per day and finish 3 books in a week? *collapses* *overdramatic* Whyyy am I sooo slow?? Forsooth! And.. thee things!

Seriously though, good luck. Gonna be mucho fun.

    1. Oh dear LORD no, I cannot finish 3 books on 2 hours a week. I want to spend at least 2 hours reading but I'm SO SURE I'll end up reading more each day. And the Friday-Saturday of that week is probably going to contain like 12 hours of reading since I'll finally be un-busy finally and so done with the world that I just need a BREAK. Also I intend to listen to an audio book while I'm making (2) 4 hour bus journeys. I feel like maybe that wasn't clear. But it's my intention, to be sure.

  6. Hello,
I saw that you were doing the Bout of Books read-a-thon. I've followed you to make sure I get your updates! I would really appreciate it if you could come over to my blog to check it out, and if you like it, you can follow me as well. I hope you'll follow my read-a-thon journey. I blog about my favourite music and books hence the name Music Plus Books.
    Thank you and good luck,
    Music Plus Books
    - Laura

    1. I'm glad you like my blog!!! I'm so glad you're also taking part in Bout of Books!

  7. I have TTEN on my list too...we must discuss! And Sloppy Firsts is one of my favorite YA books ever. I read it a million times before blogging. Jessica Darling is the queen of snark and sarcasm. Good luck this week and enjoy hanging out with your friends!

    1. Ah! I'm so glad you love Sloppy First so much. All of the books on the list are books I want/wanted to read SO MUCH but that's definitely towards the top of the list, if I had to rank 'em!

  8. I love that I've read most of these books! Yay! You're going to LOVE Fire. I've already decided it. And Going Vintage is really cute... it's not so much fluffy cute though. Definitely has lots of heart! Good luck! :)

    1. Meeeeep I just like fluffy sometimes, y'know? But I'm okay with it being more intense than that. I'm glad that someone's already read most of these books so I can have someone to talk to!!!

  9. a great list! i really liked Meant to Be & Going Vintage. good luck! ~daphne

    1. Ooooh so glad you liked those! I just love the covers of both and it's so hard to keep myself from picking them up!!
